Brussels, 8 April - A communication by the European Commission on “Building trust in human-centric AI” and the “Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI” by the AI High-Level Group were published.
Building on the work of the group of independent experts appointed in June 2018, the Commission launched a pilot phase to ensure that the ethical guidelines for Artificial Intelligence (AI) development and use can be implemented in practice. The Commission invites industry, research institutes and public authorities to test the detailed assessment list drafted by the High-Level Expert Group, which complements the guidelines.
Based on fundamental rights and ethical principles, the Guidelines list seven key requirements that AI systems should meet in order to be trustworthy:
- Human agency and oversight
- Technical robustness and safety
- Privacy and Data governance
- Diversity, non-discrimination and fairness
- Societal and environmental well-being
